Conservatorship

(As of January 2008. Definitions and statutes may change after this date.)

A Conservatorship is a court proceeding in which a Conservator is nominated for an individual who can no longer manage his/her own financial affairs – such as a person with a legally established incapacity, or a child who lost his/her primary caregivers. A Conservator may be nominated by another document, such as a will. If no one is available to act in that capacity, however, the probate court will appoint an individual.
