Charitable Remainder Trust

(As of January 2008. Definitions and statutes may change after this date.)

A Charitable Remainder Trust is often used to make large donations (of either property or money) to a charity so that the donor can obtain a tax advantage. The donor reserves the right to use the trust property during his lifetime, or some other specified time period. When the period elapses, the property is then turned over to charity.
